Boehner’s Speakership in Trouble After House’s Vote

Posted 01.02.13 by TPNN.com,

Last night, the House approved the Senate’s deal to avert the fiscal cliff. The House voted 257-167 with only 85 Republicans voting in favor.

With increased stimulus spending coupled with no real spending cuts, the deal serves as an embarrassing loss for Republicans as the deal raises taxes and does nothing to cut spending in any meaningful way. Because of this, Republican leadership may be up for grabs.

Last night’s vote comes only weeks after Speaker of the House John Boehner’s power-grab, where he purged conservative leaders from financial committee positions to eliminate opposition. Boehner’s “Plan B” was never brought to a vote due to lack of support from conservative House members. Now that a deal has been passed that serves as a defeat for Republicans, Boehner’s position is in trouble.

Majority Leader Eric Cantor and Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy broke with Boehner and Paul Ryan and publicly denounced the bill. The willingness to so publicly break with Boehner perhaps signals a potential challenge for the Speakership, perhaps as early as Thursday, when the new Congress convenes.

American Majority Action spokesman Ron Meyer has claimed that enough Republican leaders have met to unseat Boehner. He stated,

“At least 20 House Republican members have gotten together, discussed this and want to unseat Speaker Boehner–and are willing to do what it takes to do it. That’s more than enough to get the job done, but the one problem these guys face is they need a leader to coalesce behind.”

Meyer also claimed that conservative leaders are considering backing Cantor for the job.

In the aftermath of November’s elections, it was widely claimed that “elections have consequences.” While this is true, with Boehner’s leadership being called into serious question and his position in jeopardy, it appears that votes have consequences as well.

Retaliation against Tea Party and true conservative House members has consequences, too, Mr. (for now) Speaker!

  • Doris C

I had hopewd Ryan was smarter than this. He must have known it was a bad deal. Now how can we trust anything he puts forward from now on.

  • midnightrider35000

    Get rid of the rino

  • http://www.facebook.com/gwbuess Gerald Buess

This nitwit and his followers need to go.

  • http://www.facebook.com/kenny.stites.90 Kenny Stites

What about David Keene President of NRA. OR Wayne LaPerrie? They are both straight shooters for Speaker of the House! I would go for Donald Trump IF, he would run the position as he runs his business. I once wrote him in for President when there was not a canidate worte voting for?

  • http://www.facebook.com/rick.fortner.7 Rick Fortner

Boehner must go at any cost,he is a puppet of Obama

  • Barbara

Boehner, needs to go we need someone with a Spine

  • Emmett Smith

This business of taking from those who have it and giving to those who don’t doesn’t work. The Soviet Union learned this the hard way. Reduce taxes so that the economy will recover and stop taking our money and giving it away idiots! That includes Social Security!

  • Mike_Sr

I certainly hope so! We need a true and eloquent Conservative speaker who is able to aptly turn the phrase back on the demoncrat…
All we’ve got is a repugnantcan in name obviously!

  • Taskmasterendgame

Lt. Col. Allen West for Speaker of the House
    Now!

  • Richard Brophy

So taxes will be raised with no cut in spending. Nothing personal against Boehner, but he clearly didn’t do a good job.

  • http://www.facebook.com/pmcconathy1 Phil McConathy

Great post! Boehner MUST go or I am turning my back on the GOP. We must have someone who has a backbone as the Speaker. We currently don’t have one. If we don’t get a STRONG Speaker for the upcoming debt limit raising in February this party and America is toast!

  • keepersleeper

New Day-Same Old Sh#! I’ve Had It! All’s Lost for America as we know it!!! No more money from me to ANY Republican organization and I STILL plan to change my voter affiliation from republican to independent!! Washington, DC is a SICK environment!

  • njr2

i don’t care anymore. i think the best thing for me would be to move to texas and work on the secessionist movement. we have a clown in the whitehouse who won with a rigged election with 108% of REGISTERED voters voting in a couple ohio (not surprised) precincts, and huge precincts in pa voting 100% for the jerk (not one accidental vote for anyone else not one vote for mickey mouse?), no one is investigating. poor little hilary falls down and bumps her little pea brain and the benghazi investigation grinds to a halt. anyone remember ‘fast and furious?’ the black panthers? how about NO REAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE has ever been produced but we are told by our own party to laugh at donald trump and Joe Arpaio instead of standing up for them TELLING THE TRUTH. anyone wonder about how justice roberts, after saying the was no way obamacare could be constitutional, votes FOR it. i’m sick of pretending i believe in this gutless corrupt republican party anymore. sick of the orange-crybaby-bitch-sellout speaker. america is gone, long live the republic of texas.

  • maureen

Cantor is the man. He started You cut and this is what we have to do CUT. He is diplomatic and young. We need to rid of the stagnant white male in congress. Sorry guys I am a white female and this house needs younger white, black, latino, asian americans with our values which are fiscally conservative yet socially moderate. We could use some real financial gurus rather than lawyers.

It’s time to start impeaching the congress members who are only interest in their own interest. Let’s start with the speaker of the house and then work our ways to the senate. Alan West did not lost his seat it was stolen by the Dem’ and you can take that to the bank. kess48

  • KERRY STEPHENS

Boehner needs to go, he obviously is a Demo-Rat.

  • disqus_AJDKSfLqHM

I think its time Americans that are at least retired, start moving out of the U.S. to countries that will appreciate our retirement money being spent there.

  • Carl Albert

Boehner needs to go, Cantor would be an excellent Speaker.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_4DW23G4VU2HJAPBFZ7OHNC2FVY John

Canto is a Rhino just as Boehner is. At this time he is grandstanding for the speakers job. You didn’t hear him trying to stop the raises in congress. The Senate should not be paid at all. Four years without a Budget. If we had a real president we would already have had a trial and execution of Harry “the slime ball” Reid. Preferably by drowning in a cesspool.

  • Ron Livaudais

Obama does not have a mandate to continue to wreck the economy and the spineless Publicans are treating him as if he is a king and does have that mandate. How pathetic!!!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_4DW23G4VU2HJAPBFZ7OHNC2FVY John

The term is not king, it is Tyrant. A communist Tyrant. We are so close to going communist it is truly scary.

Shame on GOP – they joined the gang of legal thieves and robbers! No more opposition to liberal big spenders! We have to change leadership of this country before it’s too late…

  • Abner62

What they really need to do is grow a pair and throw the Illegal Alien out of the White House according to the Constitutional requirements to be President!!

    • dodger4754

Unfortunately, Abner, the Senate tries Impeachment proceedings, not the House. The House already has an impeachment bill, introduced in May ’12 by Walter Jones, R-NC, but even if it passed, he’d never be convicted in the Dem Senate.

  • http://twitter.com/angel13wowings Faye Shamblin

If you make changes for speaker of the I house I want Newt Gingrich he would have more knowledge and power than any of the house rep at the present Now My VOTE is for NEWT G.

    • HowardLast

Faye, do you remember 1995 when the House would not agree to the budget and kommandant klinton started closing parks and monuments? Gingrich could not jump fast enough to pass the budget. He even castigated House members that would not go along. If Gingrich had stuck fast we would not be in this predicament today. Also Gingrich is a CFR member, how do you say New World Order. Boehner is just another Gingrich.

  • http://www.facebook.com/heidi.hofacker.9 Heidi Hofacker

We need to send a message to the 20 that are willing to vote Boehner out that we support that decision and back them. He has been ineffective… to be kind, and either they make a change or I am done with the GOP as there is no longer ANY difference between the parties. I will support individual candidates based only on their voting record not party affiliation.

  • Bill

The look on his face says it all, ” Duh, which way did it go, which way did it go”. A Moderate Democrat in Republican clothing. Should have switched sides in Congress when Reid did in the Senate.

  • Brian

Not just Boehner ,but also Cantor. I don’t trust either one. Oh and thanks Republicans for giving us a one party system. Can you say new wig party.

  • SandraYvonneFreeman

Boehner MUST!! go I had a feeling he would fold ~ What a Wimp!!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_4DW23G4VU2HJAPBFZ7OHNC2FVY John

A feeling? It was a certainty. The guy is and always has been spineless. Cantor is only grandstanding, he is as bad as bonehead.

Not Cantor!! He’s been too shaky on a number of key issues, when it comes to Obamacare! No No Not Cantor!!!

      • jlbs

I agree…….no to Cantor. Bachman, West, Gohmert, Gowdy. I’d recommend Issa but we need him to continue the investigations into F & F and Benghazi. We must never forget.

What happened to Michele Bachmann? she once wanted to job of speaker; has she been marginalized? Haven’t heard a thing from her lately.

Allen West- I understand that the speaker doesn’t have to be a member. He was cheated out of his seat by shenanigans in Florida. He would be perfect fot this spot.

    • http://twitter.com/victoria_29 victoria_29

and looking how west voted Boehner party line this would be progress how? Sorry I look at records, talk which is all west has done is cheap.

    • Doris C

That is true for the senate also? I didnt know that was true of both houses. They never call Reid mr. speaker.

  • disqus_C2PzvP9QgM

Rand Paul the New Speaker of the House.

    • http://www.facebook.com/kincaid.dave Dave Kincaid

You do know that Rand is a Senator, right?

    • http://twitter.com/victoria_29 victoria_29

ah you can’t make a senator speaker of the house

  • fullspinzoo

Boehner has shown his true colors and he is a total joke. He blows like the wind. Whatever direction suits his fancy. He did tell Reid to “go F himself”., which is the only thing he’s done well in six months.

  • Russ

Lets see if the 20 House members who want to replace Boehner are willing to do what they say…or is just more political rhetoric from the peanut gallery???

    • Carl Albert

Agreed Russ – if you are going talk the talk you should be willing to walk the walk. Boehner must go.

  • HowardLast

McConnell also has to go. How about Alan West for Speaker? And Rand Paul for Senate Minority Leader?

    • RLG

I thought West lost his re- election bid.

      • Steve Lyle

That is immaterial. Anyone nominated and winning majority support from the sitting members of a party can become the speaker. He need not be an active or even an ex-congressman.

        • http://www.facebook.com/tomconnie.robertson Tom-Connie Robertson

If that’s the case, then Allen West would make a great Speaker.

        • Taskmasterendgame

          RLG
You are the reason the Democrats and RINOS are in office!
West can still be elected Speaker of the House!

          • RLG

No. Just wasn’t aware of that tidbit.

        • RLG

          Didn’t realize this.

      • HowardLast

The Speaker of the House does not have to be a member of Congress. See Article 1, Section 2, Clause 5.

    • http://www.facebook.com/tomconnie.robertson Tom-Connie Robertson

Alan West lost his re-election bid.

    • njr2

mat salmon of az, and jeff flake of az for minority leader in the senate. sarah palin for speaker!!!!! i would so love to hear the palosi scream for that one, or bring back gingrich, would that stick in their craw or what!!

  • Laurence Thomas

Throw him OUT! Obama will continue to ride rough shod over the Republicans as long as he knows they will cave.

  • Carol

Is that 85 enough to give us another treasonous rino? Thats all I want to know. Because these people are so corrupt its horrifying.

  • rsgonner

Boehner must go. Constitutionally, the Speaker does not have to be a sitting member of the House. That opens the door for some really qualified outside-the-beltway people with common sense. In 4 years, obozo has overspent the budget by $4 trillion. That is over a dime an hour for the time since the earth’s creation 3.54 billion years ago. We must be nuts to elect these people….

    • marthasusan40

      Great Post !

      • John

Perfect job for Donald Trump … someone who who plays to win not lose

        • SandraYvonneFreeman

          YES!! I agree!!!

        • http://www.facebook.com/john.lacharite John Lacharite

Donald Trump is a full-of-himself windbag who makes a mockery of American politics. He is looking out for himself. He does have some good points on China and spending and he may be a wildly successful business man, but politically he is poison and a joke. I dont like him speaking on behalf of the republican party at all. His rhetoric during the campain(from the sidelines, because he was smart enough not to make a real run) probably played a big part in Romney’s downfall, especially when Romney and Trump did those fundraisers in Vegas. It was an embarassment. We need legitamate leaders. Id like to see Cantor take the job. Have to add that I am very disappointed in Paul Ryan. This effectively ends his chances of ever becoming president, with one horrible vote. Good bye Mr. Ryan.

    • Elizabeth

      I agree

  • treecutter

I hope you guys in power get Bonehead out of their he”s just another RINO

    • Elizabeth

      so true

    • jlbs

      And Cantor is no better.

  • Ronald Nelson

You can add Darrel Isaa to the list of opposition… he took to the well of the House last night and declared his open opposition to this bad bill. It is also quite telling that the Speaker was not physically present during this session… says, a lot.

    • dodger4754

Issa would be an excellent candidate as would Walter Jones, R-NC, who also voted against this disastrous bill.

  • http://www.facebook.com/rcorley1 Richard Corley

I think the Palin suggestion is the best she did a great job in fighting the politics in Alaska,
