Is there a shooter terrorizing your office building? Well, don’t panic. The Department of Homeland Security wants you to know that if you’re confronted with a madman indiscriminately murdering innocents, there are many options you can turn to. You can cower and hope the gunman passes you by, you can run away or, if you’re feeling particularly feisty, you can defend yourself with a pair of scissors.
Seriously, that is what an instructional video made by the Department of Homeland Security suggests as a means of protection. They don’t offer the guidance that actually might save untold lives- to carry a firearm for protection- no, they tell us to run, hide and to arm ourselves with office supplies.
The video outlines what they see as the best options for defense by saying, “In the event of a shooting at your location, you must quickly determine the most reasonable way to protect your own life. You will need to determine if the best course of action is to evacuate or to hide.”
But what third choice is glaringly omitted from that short list of options? That’s right- nowhere in the video does the narrator say, “Try to leave; but if confronted by a gunman, pull out a sidearm and shoot the gunman until he’s dead.” They don’t say it because the government is content with creating victims- not saving lives.
The most evil and dangerous false projection by the left in this crusade against our Second Amendment protections is that they are doing it to save lives. They crow-beat concerned parents by saying, “Do it for the children!” They posture as if their asinine ideas and proposed policies will protect lives when they do the exact opposite.
As I’ve stated before, I consider gun control to be immoral in many fashions. I consider it immoral to restrict the ability of a young woman to walk down a dark alley way without fear of being overpowered. I think it’s immoral to create a legal atmosphere where a man who wants to protect his family must choose between disarming himself or committing an illegal act by retaining his Second Amendment right and keeping his gun. And I certainly think it’s immoral to tell office workers that their only options are to run, hide or to arm themselves with scissors against a gunman.
But that’s what the Department of Homeland Security is doing. In the video, the narrator says, “If you are caught out in the open and cannot conceal yourself or take cover, you might consider trying to overpower the shooter with whatever means are available.” As the narrator says this, an office worker searches a desk and grabs a pair of scissors and is, apparently, ready to take the fight to the gunman… With a pair of scissors.
The video serves as the latest illustration as to what lengths the government is willing to go to not concede that a well-armed populace is the best means of saving lives. While the NRA is vilified for supposedly fostering violence, I suggest that it is the government that is fostering violence through their anti-gun hysterics.
