Food Stamp Usage Skyrockets this Thanksgiving

As we gear up for Thanksgiving, we must remember to take care of certain outstanding items on our to-do list. Pick up a turkey- check. Bake a pumpkin pie- check. Pay for 42.2 million Americans’ Thanksgiving feast- check.

Yes, that’s right. Welcome to Obama’s America, where the largest number ever on food stamps will be out spending “free” money on Thanksgiving.

According to the Economic Policy Institute, 42.2 million Americans are on the SNAP Program- the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, the politically-correct label for food stamps.

For a sense of contrast and to understand the momentum of the advancing welfare state, note that in 2008, America spent $39 billion on food stamps. Currently, we spend $81 billion on food stamps with next year projected to be $82 billion.

Earlier this year, attempts were made to add amendments to the farm bill and try and curb federal food stamp spending. However, it was killed in the Democrat-controlled Senate.

America has a spending problem. It’s not that I don’t understand that times are tough. However, government spending has run amok and, as we head towards the fiscal cliff, the solutions coming from the left is to tax the producers of society even more in an attempt to save ever-increasing welfare spending. This model is entirely unsustainable.

Our government needs to focus on solutions. A welfare state does not and cannot work. More people than ever are on food stamps this holiday season- that should tell liberals something about the economic policies of the last four years.

Women keep having babies – that they don’t want , just to get more food stamps and more welfare checks. I’ve heard them brag about it. The children do without because the mothers then go and sell their food stamps for drugs or money and the kids are the ones who do without. I think it should be that welfare will help with your first child. Any children after that – you are on your own!! I got sick of taking care of people who abuse the system and got away with it. And people that have never voted in their life- went out and registered to vote just so they could vote for Obama. Well, how do they like that change now? They cannot blame Bush for this. The deficit was 6 trillion when Bush was there- now it’s 17 trillion dollars. I hope he’s had enough vacations and has stopped being a celebrity. He now needs to be a PRESIDENT..I have never seen a president that did so little while in office except have a good time. It’s time to do some good- if he knows how. He is the WORST president we have EVER had. Sure will be glad when he’s out of there.

WE don’t get food stamps..my husband has cancer-cancer he received by being exposed to Agent Orange in Vietnam, I am disabled also and we can’t get anything. They say our disability is too high to qualify for food stamps. But the illegals don’t seem to have a problem getting them. And WE ARE AMERICANS!!What’s up with that? We have worked all our life. My husband is a highly decorated vet. Between our mortgage, meds, and groceries, and high gas prices, there’s nothing to live on. I don’t understand.

Steve, you are so right!! This has been a part of their plan. They are so well organizes and have totally blindsided the patriotic people in this nation and they seem to be getting away with it!! People have become the “Cattle” of this country and are being offered food and housing, preparing them for the market at the best price! The supporters of this policy seem to believe that it is better to have a greedy, corrupt government than to have thriving private businesses do well enough to create jobs and opportunity, creating prosperity for the entire nation. As this nation crumbles, so goes the world….:(

As I read this, I remember the one time I had to go on food stamps to eat. We were a young family and I was so ashamed of asking for help. What I really wanted to do was work. Using food stamps was so degrading to my soul. I wanted no part of them. I worked temporary jobs for 8 bucks an hour and got paid day by day in order to buy food and pay rent. Eventually I did get a job. I want no part of government assistance and anyone with a soul left should feel the same. IT IS NOT FREE IF YOUR NEIGHBOR HAS TO PAY FOR IT. The government produces nothing. It only takes away from those who are productive. You have no right to government assistance of any kind. You never worked for it and it is not charity. I am being forced to pay taxes and this is freely given away by a bunch of corrupt greedy politicians. Your vote is for sale. You are giving it away for food and shelter and cell phones and health care and all the other FREE things. Nothing is free. There is no Santa Claus. Obama is not paying for anything. He is stealing from those who work to pay for stuff for those who do not and will not. I am now in a country where the safety net is families. The government will not help folks. Churches and families do that if necessary.. If you are able to work and don’t, you starve. Guess what? It works. There are no lazy people when it is not tolerated. Stupid and lazy does not work and you see how well off everyone is in the big cities. See if you get a job from a poor man. Ain’t happening. Of course, if you are stupid and lazy, you don’t want a job, just a handout. Good luck with all that when the government goes belly up.. It happened in Greece and is happening with other countries. You can not have everyone on government assistance and government checks with no productive people paying the taxes. it don’t work.

I know they do it, I just don’t know how. How do they get several hundred dollars per month in food stamps? I am a senior citizen with health problems, my only income is my SS with my house payment taking almost half of my SS, and my food stamps amount to $16.00 per month. Not a lot of help there!!!

  I am on ss and receive$16 a month. Some get over $600 a month and can’t eat that much so they sell them illegally! can’t use them? give them back and give more to those who NEED them, I get hungry too!

    I think it must involve having children. The one year my kids were in public school, the day I enrolled them, the office had me fill out some forms that asked about our income. A few days later, I was informed that my kids qualified for free breakfast and lunch, and then given additional paperwork to fill out because we qualified for the food stamps program, too. I still fed my kids breakfast at home, sent them with sack lunches, and never turned in the other papers, but I remember being flabbergasted to think that we could get all that “free” food at someone else’s expense. This was ten years ago. I imagine they are pushing those forms on families even more today in our Brave New Obamerica.

That should “tell liberals something about the economic policies of the last four years”? Are you kidding? Like they didn’t plan this??? It is the agenda they have had since the beginning of the welfare state. None of this was an accident… It ties in with education… Dumb them down and shackle them with entitlements and you can get them to vote for you every time… Regardless of principles (or lack thereof…)… My only question is how do we kill it…

Yes this was a large percentage of king Obamas voter base! If you give them everyhing free paid by you guessed it us the tax payer, for sure they will vote for you. And we thought that the el ectoral college is how you win! HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
