Compromise certainly holds a place in politics. We all must give a little from time to time in politics, just as in life. We are reasonable and we know that turning this country around will take some time. However, though we understand compromise, we don’t understand the complete and utter willingness of establishment, moderate Republicans to cave on important matters time and time again.
It’s been this way for years. As we go further and further down the path to ruin, Republicans have spoken about cracking down on tax-and-spend recklessness, but when it comes time to actually hold the line, they fold like a cheap suit.
Most recently, Speaker of the House Boehner has made offers to the White House that already included tax hikes that surpassed what the Democrats had originally asked for- and it was turned down! Boehner then sweetened the pot by offering to suspend the debt ceiling for a year- and it was turned down as well!
President Obama is not looking to create a deal; he’s looking for complete victory like Sherman marching to the sea. Unwilling to offer any counter that could even remotely be construed as reasonable, Obama has made it clear that he is willing to accept near-total surrender by Republicans, much not much else.
As if that was not infuriating enough, we are seeing that establishment Republicans are nearing that threshold of embarrassing concession.
Our spending is so out of control that we are now in a situation where currently-unborn Americans will likely be saddled with debt. We are far overspending what we bring in, and rather than encourage job growth by encouraging business expansion, Democrats are looking to just go back to the well of taxpayers to fund their recklessness- and Republicans are poised to let them! At what point do we say, “Enough is enough?”
