Liberal political pundits operate under a simple rule: when in doubt, shout, “Racist!”
Senator John McCain is the latest addition to the list of “racists” who had the audacity to criticize a person of color in the Obama Administration. Last week, the editor of MSNBC.com and former hack journalist for the dying publication, Newsweek, Richard Wolffe appeared on Chris Matthews’ Hardball on MSNBC to discuss opposition to Ambassador Susan Rice’s nomination as Secretary of State. Par for the course, Wolffe cited racism as the only possible factor in the opposition facing Rice.
Discussing who would be nominated for the job, Wolffe stated,
“…frankly, it’s outrageous that there is this witch hunt going on the right about these people of color, let’s face it, around this president. Eric Holder, Valerie Jarrett, now Susan Rice. Before, it was Van Jones. This is not about who is hawkish in the same way John McCain is about foreign policy because if you look at Iran and Libya, Susan Rice checks those boxes. This is a personal vendetta. It’s about presidential authority.”
Ah, there it is… These officials are supposed to be immune from criticism because to criticize them is to succumb to racial prejudice.
Even Matthews, seemingly, had a hard time swallowing this explanation and retorted,
“So, you think McCain is being– McCain and people like Lindsey Graham, McCain, who had his own daughter attacked, was accused of having an illegitimate child when, in fact, he adopted a young girl from South Asia. You’re saying that McCain’s being driven by racial prejudice here?”
To which Wolffe absurdly replied,
“There is no other way to look at this because look at her foreign policy and by the way, Look at what John McCain said about Condi Rice’s nomination. We’re running this story on the front page of the MSNBC website right now. Back then- four years- eight years ago, John McCain said the people – the Democrats who were questioning Condi Rice’s credentials they were engaged with bitter innocence, they needed to move on. Why has he changed his tune? What is it about Susan Rice? And the answer is there aren’t any good foreign policy explanations for it.”
There’s a pretty obvious other way to look at it…
John McCain supported Condoleezza Rice, a woman of color; and he doesn’t support the actions of Susan Rice, a woman of color, and that somehow equates to McCain being racist? If anything, that would indicate that race is not a contributing factor and that he is willing to support candidates based on other factors- such as whether or not they have actively lied to the American people to push a false narrative about an obvious terrorist attack on our consulate.
Seriously, where do they find these guys?
Susan Rice either needs to admit that she lied to the American people about Benghazi or admit that she’s incompetent as a State Department official. In either case, we can’t have her as Secretary of State. If my aversion to liars makes me a racist, so be it.
