Praise from Obama’s Fans for Extra Food Stamps

The Twittersphere has been going crazy with reports of Obama “giving” the masses extra food stamp money for Thanksgiving. There have not actually been any conclusive reports that the government did, in fact, give out extra Thanksgiving food stamps, but that didn’t stop the rumor from spreading and Twitter users from showing their love for the “Food Stamp President.”

There are no reports that EBT cards across the country have received more money, but the end result is the same. People are jazzed and “shouting out” to Obama because they think he gave them “free” stuff. One man actually lamented that he did not have an EBT.

 

Though, it should be noted that Connecticut households affected by Hurricane Sandy have received extra food stamp money on their EBT cards, ranging from $4 to $300. Andrew Doba, a spokesman for Governor Malloy, stated,

“This is for folks on food stamps who already receive it. It’s to help replenish food supplies.”

Meanwhile, those of us who have freeze-dried or canned food and water and have a habit of feeding ourselves get the proverbial finger from the government for having had the foresight to realize a disaster may someday happen.

But hey, Romney was waaaay out of line for suggesting that people voted for Obama to get “free” stuff, right?

    The Bible says if you don’t work, you don’t eat. This is what happens when you remove God from this country. I am not against people having food stamps if they are really in need, but since 1964 when welfare began to help people for a short period of time, each generation since has become non-working, government dependent, and there are kids now who have no clue that people are supposed to work. Take God out of the equation and chaos ensues. No one wants to work, they expect the government to support them, and the schools have turned into war zones, with gangs, student fights over shoes, and school shootings. Our schools shouldn’t have to have armed guards and razor wire fences that make it look like a prison. Our children shouldn’t have to fear other kids when they are in school. And our government needs to start putting people to work in exchange for all the food stamp and welfare dollars.

    I think people need to get a job and start working. I support helping people who are veterans, disability, and need assistant living. (those people who can’t work need help) The people who have welfare and food stamps can work just they are lazy and think Obama is going to make all their dreams come true! Wake up People, Obama is destroying this country, he is taxing success and it is not right. We need to make the cuts in government. Make all the members of congress and senate work for minimum wage and make the cuts with their pay checks. They were the ones who got us in the debt. It wasn’t the rich Americans fault for making too money (thats capitalism. ) So those people need to start working and pay taxes like everyone else. Oh just to let people know Im a college student who works for my college and Im not on any government help at all!

    Being poor is supposed to SUCK! Other wise there no incentive to make a better life for ones self. As for those claiming disability, I have know and worked with many that have severe disabilities yet still work and are successful. There is a man in the area I live in that has been wheel chair bound his entire life. His momma, decided when he was young that despite his disability he would learn to take care of himself. He is now in his 70′s, he has made a fortune, is now a quadra-palegic, yet works every day of his life. So BS, I’m disabled and cannot work for the rest of my life!
    Nearly everyone can make a contribution, it is a matter of personal choices. Many people are poor due to their own personal choices, Knowone else is to blame! Make good choices in life and you will less likely be poor. Get an education, learn a trade, go to work, work while at work. Stay off drugs, do not abuse alcohol, these things are all choices we make.

Think girl..how does it feel to see people buying crab legs, lobster tails and steak for their cook outs and you have to eat hot dogs and hamburgers??? I SEE it in VA. and it pisses me off. BUT those buying the food had on better clothes then me, gold and diamond jewelery.WHY? Cause they learned generation after generation to have lots of babies out of wed lock, never try to get OUT of the system but just keep letting fat Louie keep his fat butt laying on the sofa watching a BIG SCREEN TV or laying in the bed, that the Government subsidies so the poor kids have a warm place to live in. LOOK on the streets at the old people who are on the streets, because they use what money they get to buy their med’s and some food. OBAMA gave extra food stamps, gave cell phones, and anything else ( probably even $50. bills to buy votes. HOW DOES 108% of the people ALL vote for OBAMA in one little town in NC? YES…I said 108%.. you can’t figure out there is only 100% of people in a town Linda!! BUT it happened. Did you get anything from him….I did…a flaming headache for the next 4 years, 2 months and 1 week!

    Romney didn’t just generally say people vote for him for freebies–he specifically said 47% of us may as well be welfare bums(including police officers & teachers earning 20K to 45K yearly!) I suspect that helped Obama win–many conservatives voted for him as their “hated duty” because the alternative Romney was worse! If only the G.O.P. could find a REALLY good candidate–one who, unlike McCain or Gingrich, does not admire Theodore Roosevelt(a believer in eugenics and other horrors of tyrants!), and has a fully rational perception of the American public!

    In order to get a poor man back on his feet, wouldn’t it be SMARTER to teach him how to fish, rather than just giving him a fish to only eat for 1 day then starve the next? This reminds me of this parable, Jesus Healed the sick, he took care of the poor, and mind you i’m not for gun rights, i hate guns, but this is just TOO much, Jesus would teach you how to fish, he’d show you how to spread his word, not just tell you once and thats all… I’m no “Hallelujia, JESUS freak”, but i have so much faith in my heavely father that i even give 10% of my INCOME to my church, FREELY. My family is broke, we pay 3000 a YEAR for medical insurance, i only make $11/hr and pay rent, gas and so on, and I DON’T ask for any government assistance because its bullcrap! It will only make me less money in the long run because of all the taxes that would rise because of laziness!!!! I don’t understand how OBAMA could do something like this, it is ridiculous, I MISS MITT. give money to the people who DESERVE IT, not those who make you think they do, give it to the TRULY FREAKING POOR, or find them a job! help them get on their feet, give them a time line before you CUT the system, believe me, SOSOSOSO many people cheat the system!!!!

    When people get defensive about their Welfare and whatever handouts they get to me they’re hiding something. They never talk about how they are helping themselves. Maybe if they explain and stop griping some would understand their situation! After all Welfare/food stamps/free this & that are not a mandate it’s temporary until you get back up on your feet .       Because it was meant to be temporary is exactly why I no longer rely on them, despite my struggle. I can not hope to help myself if I allow someone to always take care of me.

      I know that a lot of people would love to not work and get paid to do it, but we work anyway. While I have not always enjoyed my jobs, I have enjoyed working.

      What makes me angry is not that I had to rely on unemployment benefits and food stamps, it’s that the government said I had no use of it. My benefits were barely enough to make rent and they cut my food stamps down to $16/month. So, I said “Fluff off. If I have to pay for food out of my pocket, you can take the money and shove it up where the sun don’t shine.” And this was after they told me I was no longer eligible for the unemployment benefits I spent 20 years paying into. It angers me that they give people who REFUSE to work the money that I worked for.

      But, again, as you say, my parents told me about growing up. Mom knew that my unemployment was paying a lot, so she helped, but I am taking a job that I don’t exactly want to do because 1) I need to make my own way as much as I can on the low pay, and 2) I need to be a contributing member to society again. My benefits wore out a long time ago and despite the struggle, I can do it – and WILL do it – without the aid of the government.

      But, after the novel I wrote, I agree with you.

    Are they really that stupid???? Do they really think he took it out of HIS pocket and gave them extra food stamp $$$..which by the way is not always used for food? Ever been in line and seen what really happens when the companion behind the food stamp recipient pays for certain items? The partner/companion comes next in line with the
    rest of the purchase, ie beer, wine, cigs, etc and takes a wad of cash out of the wallet and pays for those items! We are sooooo being used!!!

    The safety net of General Welfare can not be done away with, however welfare reform is very much needed this is true. Welfare came into effect by the ideology that there would be help when a person or persons came upon hard times and needed such help to get by on until they could get back on their feet and do for themselves. We need to get back to helping people back to their feet and getting them off of welfare is what is important here

    Now all the verbal outrage that Romney got saying the “INCUMBENT” gave them free gifts .I think this speaks the truth. He was right on the money. And as one who has to have a help out(I lost my job,my home,my car used all my savings and unemployment) I didn’t get this “extra” freebie . maybe because the county here in Northern,Ca where I reside know I’m out busting the pavement looking for work. I have never ever gone this long without any kind of work and I’ve worked over 40 years . Wow shows these are the lazy low life ignorant American who think the govt owes them.

She tried multiple times to get more food stamps just so she could eat – finally a black woman who helped her numerous times on various visits – finally was honest enough to tell her – she was white, not black. So.. no help for her.

    My wife and I work full time. It’s like we set 2 extra plates at the table every meal. If a man doesn’t work he should not eat. I’m not talking about people that really are incapable of work through legitimate disabilities. I am talking about the GIMMEE CROWD that is taking what is mine and sucking me dry!

    I had to go on disability for a couple of years after I had breast
    cancer. I had aggressive chemo and it left me with numbness in
    extremities and it left me with short term memory loss and I could not
    function enough to work. My whole body just broke down. I was 58 years
    old. By the time I filed and got the SS disability, I was 62. So I
    ended up with being on SS and medicare. I never took any food stamps.
    Only a check from SS which I paid into each payday when I worked. I never use the medicare anymore than I have to. I am now 68 and am a 10 year
    survivor of breast cancer and if I could have worked I would have
    because I loved my job. But there are those who need the help and those
    who just want a free ride. To me, it was a big help and I paid into it
    and grateful that it was there. I would never want more than I I need.
    I don’t even park in the handicap space on my good days if I don’t need
    it. But I hear about all kinds of abuses. And it is a big waste. I’m
    grateful it was there when I needed.

    After reading many posts I see how people twist the institution and it’s meaning. Many are correct it is here as a safety net for those in need, it is here for the disabled who really have no way of making ends meet. After Obama was elected thousands were laid off in Hawaii, yes both my husband and I were both hit by this, as we have put into the system for over 40 years, we did accept the food stamps for a few months, but got jobs as soon as we could and returned the assistance card. We were just blessed to have work again. THIS is what it is meant to do…Help and assist, NOT for the Lazy, not for the procrastinator, and not for the users, and they are 3 to 1. 1/4 need 3/4 don’t. And yes I have done my research! When it comes to an end there will be many upset, no go look for that job Obama promised would be shovel ready… Oh wait there are none! So Do what we did, take a 1/2 to 3/4 pay cut and get by like the rest of us.

    Budgets do not come from the White House. They come from
    Congress and the party that controlled Congress since January 2007 is
    the Democratic Party. Furthermore, the Democrats controlled the budget
    process for 2008 & 2009 as well as 2010 & 2011.

    In that
    first year, they had to contend with George Bush, which caused them to
    compromise on spending, when Bush somewhat belatedly got tough on
    spending increases.

    For 2009 though, Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid
    bypassed George Bush entirely, passing continuing resolutions to keep
    government running until Barack Obama could take office. At that time,
    they passed a massive omnibus spending bill to complete the 2009 budget.

    And where was Barack Obama during this time? He was a member of that
    very Congress that passed all of these massive spending bills, and he
    signed the omnibus bill as President to complete 2009. Let’s remember
    what the deficits looked like during that period:

    If the
    Democrats inherited any deficit, it was the 2007 deficit, the last of
    the Republican budgets. That deficit was the lowest in five years, and
    the fourth straight decline in deficit spending. After that, Democrats
    in Congress took control of spending, and that includes Barack Obama,
    who voted for the budgets.

    If Obama inherited anything, he
    inherited it from himself. In a nutshell, what Obama is saying is “I
    inherited a deficit that I voted for,
    And then I voted to expand that deficit four-fold since January 20th.” “The problems we face today exist because the people who work for a living are outnumbered by those who vote for a living.”

If the Calendar Fairies would quit moving it around and then springing it on us at random times in different months, then maybe we could all plan ahead and save up a dollar here and there to eventually pay for our turkey dinners. Well, gosh, never in the entire history of the world has there ever been a storm to strike and cause things like power outages, so of course people were shocked and unprepared. All you big meanies, thinking maybe people could’ve been better prepared for something they couldn’t have possibly known was heading their way! It’s not like we have 24-hour internet or news services to warn them or anything.

    Before anyone slams me: I have been through ten hurricanes and counting now, so yes, I do know how to get ready for them. After Ike, we were without power for three weeks. We simply ate the perishable food first, and gave away what we couldn’t eat in time, then lived off the boxed/canned stuff after.

    *Oh, but, Jenn! That’s because you had money to buy boxed/canned foods!* Humph. At that time, I was feeding three adults and two teens on $325 a month and still managed to get enough food to keep us going until we could shop again. At that same time, the USDA “thrifty plan” amount – what the government uses to calculate food stamps – was more than double that for five people. I *still* feed my family on less than half what the government thinks is the absolute minimum needed.

    Responsible planning. It’s a beautiful thing.

      American 1959 – you did not pay into unemployment. Only employers pay into that. You did however pay into social security and medicare which your employer matched your contribution. You should be able to get SSDI. Find an attorney who specializes in SSDI IF toy are truly disabled. They will be able to help you so long as you want to give up 1/3 of your benefits to them.

    While I think it is morally wrong to reward people for voting a certain way that appears to be the case here. I also think that people who suffer because of natural disasters or extreme poverty or extreme stupidity should have the basic necessities of life. It is hard to comprehend hunger or acute poverty unless you have been there. If you have a way out take it. Always try to find a way out, even though the minimum of welfare and food stamps is a comfort for some, it keeps the people oppressed. keeps them down, it makes them unable to work because of fear of loosing the sure thing when a job is a gamble. But the payoff is huge. Unfortunately peoples drive is quashed when they are not able to escape the cycle, Most don’t even know they should or can escape. How glorious is the life with bounty from work and the peace of having enough to pay all the bills and still have extra. A good education and a good job and a lot of hard work paid off for me.

As the timed went on that I received food stamps, I kept pushing myself and went to school and received my associates degree. I have a job now and can’t wait to get off them. I did need them for the 4 years, but will not need them now.

    There was a time when we could have used food stamps. My husband retired from the military and he had to find work. We made $25 too much a month. So it was a struggle. We only really wanted 3 months worth to give him time to find a job. If it weren’t for wic, I don’t know how we would have got by. food stamps are needed some times but a job is so much better.

      I am disabled, get $192.00 a month in SSD. I have to pay $600.00 a month for my medicaid if I need to see a doctor, as its called medically needy. I get $16.00 a month in food stamps. I worked all my life til last year when my back finally gave out and I no longer can do so. I don’t see why they should get extra. I live in FL and never got extra even when I sat through 5 hurricanes. The gov’t. really sucks!!

      I went through Hurricane Ivan in 2008 in Houston. Everything I had in the freezer ruined and had to be thrown away. I did not get anything extra, of course I am not on food stamps. I am just an elderly retired Gentleman who worked hard all his life. I was without power for two weeks, and no one so much as gave me a bottle of water. Our city water was disrupted for several days. I disagree with your statement about these flood victims getting extra food stamps. What/ just because it flooded, they are going to eat more this month?

      @Stephanie, I don’t know about you, but here in Arizona I “work” with two “women of color” who have disability plates who obviously don’t need those either…and no the vehicles do not belong to someone else! Just because you’re “disabled” or able to get that designation does not disqualify you from working…I’ve worked with proud people who use a walker, or a cane, or have modifications to their desks….point is they are disabled and they work!!!!         I too work for a company which provides HP. funny thing the security people came in after months of abuse and requested Id’s for the HP decals. They were just a bunch of kids really that thought it was cool to park near the gate. Bragging on how clever they were and stupid we old timers were for walking further.

          I had to go on disability for a couple of years after I had breast cancer. I had aggressive chemo and it left me with numbness in extremities and it left me with short term memory loss and I could not function enough to work. My whole body just broke down. I was 58 years old. By the time I filed and got the SS disability, I was 62. So I ended up with being on SS and medicare. I never took any food stamps. Only a check form SS which I paid into each payday. I never try to abuse the medicare anymore than I have to. I am now 68 and am a 10 year survivor of breast cancer and if I could have worked I would have because I loved my job. But there are those who need the help and those who just want a free ride. To me, it was a big help and I paid into it and grateful that it was there. I would never want more than I I need. I don’t even park in the handicap space on my good days if I don’t need it. But I hear about all kinds of abuses. And it is a big waste. I’m grateful it was there when I needed.

      I appreciate your sentiments, but during my unemployment, the food stamps were a blessing. However, I am now off them because, despite the struggle I maintain to keep a roof over my head and food on my table, I have no desire to rely on the government. I wasn’t able to keep the unemployment benefits I spent TWENTY YEARS paying into so then it made it easier to just say EFF OFF to the government.

      But, during my time of unemployment, I DID find temporary jobs to help fill in whatever gaps of money needed. But, that’s just how my momma and daddy raised me.

          Steve, this is like stating that your employer pays half of your Social Security or that corporations pay taxes. The unemployment payments are part of the labor burden considered when an employee’s wages/salary is set. The bottom line is that Rae did make these payments for 20 years, they are just deducted before the “gross pay” is figured and recorded on the check.

            Sorry Joey – you are incorrect. Only the employer pays into SUTA and the employer MATCHES your social security contribution. That is except for the past to years where Obama gave employees a 2% reduction but that was not extended to employers. I know this because I have employees and pay their taxes for them every payday. Because as an employer, I am also the collection agency for the federal and state government. And only employers pay into state (SUTA) and federal unemployment (FUTA).

      But not ALL who are on food stamps are lazy. I’ve been unemployed for 2.5 years and have had to rely on food stamps to give me food. I have worked temporary jobs to help out as needed.

      But, I am infuriated that there are those taking advantage of the help the government provides. I needed the help, but have long since decided that despite how much I continue to struggle, the government is no longer helping me as I need help.       I voted for Romney. I’ve been on government assistance for the last six months after finally getting up the courage to get out of an abusive relationship after 12 years. I HATE being on it, but I feel like I had no choice, I couldn’t find a job and my husband quit his job so he wouldn’t have to pay support. I myself lived alone with my 4 children many years ago, I got a job at a supermarket and never needed any help from the government but I think is the way you are brought up, my family was never of welfare or food stamps so that has to do a lot with your upbringing. Most people on WF and FS are from 4-5 generations already, that is all they know is how to abuse the system. You will get help now but you got training for a job and god will help you will find one.       As someone who is poor, I SHOULD have voted for Obama according to what I understand you’re saying. I voted for Romney and he DIDN’T promise free stuff. So, it’s not all the poor that want free stuff. Some of us actually want to earn our keep, but during the recession (which we are not out of, but we would have been close if Romney won) I wasn’t able to get a full time job, just temporary ones that would last anywhere from one week to three months.

      But, not all who are poor want the government to help them.

And as an employer myself, I am being nailed to the wall for state unemployment insurance even though I have never had a former employee collect. It is another, everyone has to pitch in to keep those benefits flowing. People collecting unemployment, you are taking my employees raise from them. There is only so much money to spread around and when my SUTA goes up $400 every quarter, the money has to come from somewhere and it comes out of my employees raises.

But because we want to be able to give we both volunteered to help feed those who were alone or could not afford a Thanksgiving meal. Plus all is not a handout, we live on my husbands disability and because we move to a less expensive place so WE could PAY our bills they TOOK a $104 from our food stamps. We were hoping that we could get them until my disability came through then we wouldn’t need them. During the time I was unemployed, reaping unemployment benefits I paid into, I took whatever temporary job I could to off shoot the benefits; to fill in the gaps that unemployment couldn’t. My mom stepped in and helped. Not because I’m lazy or unable to work, but because it was hard for me to find full time employment, for one reason or another in regards to the economy, which is getting better and I start a new job tomorrow.

            But, I only have a problem with helping those who AREN’T TRYING to help themselves. I get that, every once in a while, help from the government may be needed, but if you CAN work, then you SHOULD work.

            I have NO problem with the veterans, disabled, and retired getting the benefits they deserve for what they paid into and because they may not be able to work. I just am tired of helping those who REFUSE to help themselves. “Give a man a fist and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” However, too often these days, we’re only willing to give the man a fish rather than teach him how to fish.

            Do you see the danger in that?

          I agree with you, Checker99, but I hesitate to define sin except on my own actions. But, I think the greatest sin is that of our leaders, exploiting men and women, especially our youth, by encouraging them to be non-productive and then rewarding them for it, which keeps them dependent on government programs that guarantee votes. I’m well into my senior years, and my greatest disappointment is women, now expecting someone else to pay for protection and remedy for the permissive and even careless lifestyle they may have chosen. It’s a mindset so foreign to how I was raised and it concerns me that these are our future parents. Well, maybe? If they raise their surviving children like they discarded unfortunate fetuses, well over 50 million since the 70′s, we may have a whole new set of problems in the future. I pray every day to see the enthusiastic ambition that young adults once had, the impatience to get out into the wonderful American world and make their mark, to climb to the station in life where they will be safe, secure and productive – to balance the lifestyle level they want and with the time and effort they willing to exert to get there. We need to motivate our youth toward success so they’ll not fall victim to social “missions”, the band wagons of self serving radicals. Pray.

            Very true1 Like the United Way, it was found they had a rate of 85% administration cost. Only 15% actually gets to the needy. So goes the Govt. handout. While I am in the grocery check out with my $30.00 (paid in cash for a family of 5) in groceries, I commonly find some really fat folks with a basket full of more than $300.00 ( 10 times more than I can afford) paying with Food Stamps ( the little American flag credit card). I do notice they are very well dressed and with lots of gold jewelry. Then I watched as they walked out in perfect health, without disability to their new car parked in a Handicapped space. I asked the cashier how many folks use EBT and she replied 9 out of 10! I think tax payers are being taken advantage of. NEXT TIME you are in the store, look around, you will find this same thing I do….. It time to reform this abuse!

But read the passages leading up to and following and it states that this man wanted to know why he did not have eternal life. It was because he loved his money more than God. My employee turned in a section 8 person who had her boyfriend move in with her. She was angry because her townhouse, that she paid for, had issues that the landlord would not address. But yet, welfare mama had hers all redone by the landlord so he could get the section 8 money from the state. Guess what happened when she turned her in? Nothing.

        We realize there are those unable for whatever reason to work or to find a job. Those people know who they are and should rest with a clear conscience, tho many dont. The others know who they are also and shouldnt have a clear conscience but the majority of them do.

            Actually, people who qualify for Lifeline (free government phones) also qualify for discounted broadband service ($10/mo) if they’re in the Comcast or Centurylink service areas. If you live in Kansas it’s free.

            If not, there are still a lot of toll-free dialup ISPs in the US like Earthlink and Netzero that can be had for $10/mo or even less.

            Take the bus or walk.. if you receive assitance why do you need a car you don’t have a job to get to also, rules state you can’t own a car, gifting over $ 25.00 is to be reported…how many actually do that? And there are those that work but get paid in cash so as to not have a trail….but work the system to the tune of a six fugure income believe me I have seen it ( remember the lottery winner who was still receiving food stamps) AND I have fed a family of 3 for a week on $20.00. Can of Tuna .89, box of noodles .79, Mac and Cheese 1.00 box, Bag of rice 1.79, pound of hamb 3.00 hot dogs 2.50 Milk, bread, peanut butter, eggs, cheese chicken when on sale spagetti sauce 1.00 jar, do I need to go on.. cupons are money by the way …..Steak and Mcdonalds not in our budget nor were designer anything ….How about take advantage of the educational programs like a skilled trade training. If your disabled and can drive….you can work, you can do something !

            BTW, “Obama Phone” is a misnomer since the free LifeLine cell phone was started under George Bush. The original Lifeline program (which only involved discounted land-line service) was started under Bill Clinton.

But the majority of the people who get food stamps are like Obama, the biggest liars of America, they know every trick in the book how to swindle the system and they get away with it. They need to make this people get a job if they want food stamps or welfare. That was not made for carrer freeloaders but for needy people. NY is probably the worse. I lived there for 6 years and had many friends that got welfare, foods stamps and the husbands or boyfriends lived with them. I never saw a social worker suprise visit any of those people. That is why there is so much scam in our country about WF and FS.

            There are too many people who claim to be “disabled” who can still do many kinds of work, most of the time. Some people have disablilities, like MS, that act up at certain times, under certain conditions that still allow people to work most of the times, but cause severe problems some of the times, and those need to be covered under the Americans with Disabilities Act, so they can work when they are able.

            Kim, you don’t know all the aspects of Glenn’s disability, or his financial situation. It sounds to me like he has more income than the average person living on SSI alone, and there are other’s in his household (he used the term, “we are starving”) who may have income, or may be receiving other benefits. Taking the position that he should be getting more, without having all those facts, is part of the problems with the public’s view of the system.

I am legally considered disabled from a liver transplant and subsequent complications, and I accepted SSA help for the 8 months I was in the hospital and 6 months after I got home. I could continue on disability if I chose to do so, but I would rather work my 50-60 hours a week as a civil engineer like I have done for the past 25 years,

          greg i agree with you, myself at 41 yrs old had to have open heart surgery to replace a valve ,at 51 i had to have a pacemaker put in which i am totaly dependant upon it, my heart dosenot beat without it. i also have copd ,but i work 40 hours a week and is able to work, sometimes its hard but i still get up and go to work. btw i tried to get disability but was denied 3 times. oh well i just have 9 years to go before i can retire ill wait

        There are very few TRULY disabled people, disabled meaning they aren’t capable of doing some menial task to help provide for themselves. I know people who receive SSI but are still able to do things like drive, talk on the phone, sit in front of a computer, even keep their own house clean. These individuals are capable of doing something to provide for at least part of their own keep. Alcoholics, drug addicts, and others who have self made “issues” should not get assistance, because it rewards very bad choices. Now if these people are so severely disabled that they can’t do one single thing, they should be placed in a state institution, and not get any taxpayer cash benefits, which in many states, food stamps are.

        If we truly just supported the disabled, the cost of welfare would drop dramatically, and it would not be a problem. If we turned it over to the states, it would even cost less and be more efficient. Those who truly need assistance because they are disabled and can NOT work, receive precious LITTLE of what they need because of the free loaders in the system. Americans are the most generous people in the world. Literally. If welfare were handled at the state level it could be better directed to those who genuinely need it, and the cost cut down because many people, churches, organizations would volunteer as well. We have so many people on welfare that have not prepared themselves to be productive. “Why?” doesn’t matter any longer. STATE level efforts should be made, Community colleges and on the job training with tax benefits, should be recruited to train in the service trades, electrician, plumbing, technology, welding, etc.. to help put them to work in high paying jobs. Hospitals are ALWAYS hiring everyone from janitors to technicians, nurses aids etc… with good pay and good benefits. this would not only reduce the welfare roll, it would increase tax income to reimburse part of the expense of the program. I don’t believe this administration wants people off of welfare and independent.

Just a reminder to be careful generalizing all people who recieve food stamps in the same category. For example, I am 21. I’ve worked hard to become a manager at McDonalds, but I don’t even make $10 an hour yet after being with the company for 4 years (KY wages tend to be lower than other U.S. states). I also go to college full time and I recieve food stamps. I truly need them. I mean I COULD buy food…IF I didn’t pay my electric bill. So, be careful not to overgeneralize. Your posts will not seem as creidble.
