It’s not exactly a secret that those in the mainstream media are shills for liberals. The denials that the liberal media are, in fact, liberally biased has always reminded me of the way organized crime members used to refer to their nefarious deeds- despite a mountain of evidence to the contrary, these Mafiosi would half-heartedly claim, “There is no mafia.”
The mainstream media has, for decades, had a working relationship with the left. They push the talking points and work around the clock to create a pleasing narrative that focuses the attention of viewers and readers where the left wants them to focus.
Until now, the politicians have had the good sense to not outright admit that the mainstream media are their shills. But that was before good ol’ Joe Biden.
Biden stopped in Philadelphia earlier this week to discuss gun violence. In his typical fashion, he segued into the topic of gun control by crassly using the death of children as a means to crusade against our rights. Citing the death of the children at Sandy Hook, Biden stated, “And you’ve heard me say this before, we can’t wait, we cannot wait. The images of those innocent little children being riddled with bullet holes has gripped the conscience of a nation and the nation is demanding that we act responsibly.”
The senseless murder of those children was horrible, and I am outraged that such evil exists in this world. But while Biden is content to callously exploit the death of children for his political gains, I have yet to hear any solid rationale for infringements upon our Second Amendment rights. Nobody has been able to explain to me what stricter gun laws would have done to prevent Sandy Hook. None of the gun control proposals would have kept the gun out of Adam Lanza’s hands. The gun was grandfathered in under a strict assault weapons ban in Connecticut and Lanza did not go through a background check to obtain it. Lanza, in fact, killed his mother before going to Sandy Hook, then stole her guns. So what would more gun laws do to deter crimes like this? Answer: nothing.
Knowing this, Biden turned to his buddies in the media to spin his narrative. Biden claimed that people were unfairly characterizing the government’s crusade to enact stricter gun control laws as an attempt to curtail Second Amendment rights. He stated,
“That’s a bunch of malarkey. I know that’s a word you’ve never heard before, although it’s now in the dictionary. That’s just simply not true. And to be very blunt with you, we’re counting on all of you, the legitimate news media, to cover these discussions because the truth is that times have changed.”
“The legitimate news media.” He’s counting on the “legitimate news media” to cover the discussions in a way that represents the narrative he and the president are looking to craft. Unbelievable.
This may come as a shock to career politicians like Biden, but the media’s function is to report the news; it is not to dutifully serve as the messenger for liberal politicians.
Most disheartening about this statement is not that Biden believes the media will report the narrative he tells them to- we’ve known that the media and the Democrats have been in collusion for some time and it’s hardly news. No, the most upsetting thing is that the Obama Administration has become so brazen in their collaboration with the liberal media that they now feel comfortable openly discussing how they will go forth and spread the approved messages.
Biden is prone to just saying whatever pops into his head. And while that can often be good for a laugh, sometimes we’re granted real insight as to how he and the Obama Administration view an issue. In this instance, it is obvious to me that the Vice President views the media as a conveyor of the approved political message.
At least Pravda admitted they functioned as a loudspeaker for the government.
