Say, folks, have you ever been in a “gun-free” zone and a shooter goes crazy and begins firing on all you law-abiding citizens? If you should ever find yourself in that situation, don’t panic! Because while you may have been barred from the use of a firearm with which you could protect yourself and others, you are still ready to take the fight to the gunman with… a ballpoint pen.
Yes, you read that correctly. According to a gun-grabbing Colorado State Senator, Jesse Ulibari, lives are endangered by having armed citizens return fire towards an attacker. He suggests that alternative means be attempted to disarm a crazed gunman and those means include using a ballpoint pen.
When discussing several anti-gun measures the state is considering, Ulibarri stated,
“I just want to say, and another comment was made a bit lighthearted to our witness but I don’t think we should take it lighthearted that when Congressman Giffords was shot and there was a shooting in the it was in a supermarket, people who were unarmed took that person down when he stopped to reload. There are other ways to address violence. And it doesn’t mean that we have our kids exposed to a whole crossfire of multiple folks in a room shooting simultaneously. And that congressman Giffords’ life was saved and so many others when very valiant folks stood up to defend themselves and protect themselves and they did it with ballpoint pens.”
And just so nobody thinks I’m unwilling to give a man his due- kudos to Mr. Ulibarri for having the nerve to say that with a straight face.
This is not the only insanity to recently come from Colorado. Just the day before, in the Colorado State House of Representatives, Democratic State Representative Joe Salazar discussed the plight of defenseless women on campuses and how they should not be armed because they may think they’re being raped and shoot someone in error. Salazar said,
“It’s why we have call boxes, it’s why we have safe zones, it’s why we have the whistles. Because you just don’t know who you’re gonna be shooting at. And you don’t know if you feel like you’re gonna be raped, or if you feel like someone’s been following you around or if you feel like you’re in trouble when you may actually not be, that you pop out that gun and you pop … pop a round at somebody.”
Sure. Republicans are waging a “War on Women” when we tell Sandra Fluke that we don’t want to pay for her birth control, but there’s nothing but the sound of crickets when Democrats advocate leaving women (and men) defenseless except for whistles and pens.
Yes, it is possible for someone to defy the odds and take down an attacker with a pen. Yes, it is possible for several people to swarm around a shooter as he reloads and tackle him, all the while praying that he can’t get off a round into each one of them before they are able to wrestle the gun from him. But for crying out loud, is that really what we should be advocating instead of allowing people the right to the useful means of self-protection?!
The left has just gone absolutely crazy in their anti-gun hysteria. Long gone are the days where we could sit down and have a rational discussion of issues based on logic and facts. We now have a division that courses through our national discussions that compels people to actually purposefully endanger the lives of innocent people in the name of advancing an anti-gun agenda.
It would be more understandable if these people were simply stupid, if they actually believed that ballpoint pens were a more-effective means of taking down a gunman. But they’re not stupid- they’re zealots.
They know that whistles, “gun-free” zones and various office supplies are not useful deterrents to protect us from violence. If “gun-free” zones worked, Chicago would be a pleasant, peaceful place and if whistles and pens worked, cops would carry them.
These anti-gun measures don’t deter crime and the left’s willingness to know that fact and still advocate for such means is the deepest insult of all- because their zealotry will cost innocent lives.
These sound-bites are hilarious in their absurdity- but I’m not laughing. It would be easy to roll our eyes and say, “Oh my, that’s crazy…” But our willingness to accept this kind of rhetoric without demanding the right to carry the means of self-protection is only going to spur this kind of lunacy on further.
Whistles and ballpoint pens won’t cut it.
